National Stadium, National Day..

National Stadium has been part and parcel of almost every Singaporean's life. You and I have seen many National Days celebrated at this stadium which was built back in 1973 to host the SEA Games. It was also the venue where many schools held their annual sports meet. Who can forget the hustle and bustle during those times when we were still primary or secondary school children being all too excited about going to the National Stadium. The uncle there walking around selling soft drinks and chips; the cheers and jeers we have as our fellow sports representative race across the track; the wooden benches and concrete structures; and of course, the risk of being exposed to any unpredictable weather. These were the impressions and memories I have of the National Stadium.

It was also the stadium where I witness one of the most exciting life soccer matches that I've come to know of. The match featuring Singapore and Myammar of course. 6 Dollars got me 6 yellow cards, 2 sent offs, referee got kicked on the face with mud, our players got hit by a bottle from the sideline....how exciting that 6 dollars proved to be...haha. Definitely the most value for money match. Singapore went on to win the last ever Tiger Cup Final held at National Stadium. It is always different to watch the NDP in National Stadium and its a pity that I've only managed to watch previews of NDPS here instead of the actual one. Still, the atmosphere was one which as a Singaporean, probably the only time where it stirs up your patriotic emotions to the country as the nation celebrates. The Stadium was all but a place of congregation, excitement and celebration.

Today, as the 41st National Day draws nearer, the lifespan of the stadium will too come to an end. After serving the country with numerous events, imprinting the memories of many Singaporeans, the National Stadium will bid us with a final farewell along with our Nation's 41st Birthday. Sad to say, I'll be bidding my farewell to you, my friends on that very day, very night too. Yes, I'll be embarking on my one semester stint in Sweden for my Student Exchange Program. Probably be back in time for New Year. So keep a lookout on this blog as I begin recordings of my Europe escapade in 11days time~!
